David Lynch’s film Mulholland Drive is set in one of the most fantastic locations the collective imagination of the twentieth century has to offer—Hollywood, or, more precisely, Beverly Hills. The title tells us where the action takes place: on Mulholland Drive, where the inhabitants of the mythical movie world make their home. Dorit Margreiter’s installation 10104 Angelo View Drive (2004) also indicates a specific setting in its title. Her docu-fiction, which begins at dawn and ends on a starry night, might very well have been subtitled A Day in the House of the Architect, because 10104 Angelo View Drive is the address of the Sheats-Goldstein Residence (1961–63), which was designed by the architect John Lautner, famous for his futuristic circular building known as the Chemosphere (1960).[…]
